Attendance
Longworth Primary school is a successful school and your child plays their part in making it so. We aim for an environment which enables and encourages all members of the community to reach out for excellence. For our children to gain the greatest
benefit from their education it is vital that they attend regularly and your child should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
It is very important therefore that you make sure that your child attends regularly and our Policy sets out how together we will achieve this.
The school day starts at 8.40am and we expect your child to be in class at that time. If a child arrives at school after 8.50am without prior arrangements having been agreed, he/she will be deemed late. Registers close at 8.50am and arrival at school after this time, without prior approval or extenuating circumstances, will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
Pupils arriving at school after 8.50am must enter through the main entrance and report to the school office to be signed in by an adult. Registers are also taken when the children return to classes after lunch. Unexplained absences will be investigated.

Exceptional Leave / Absences
As detailed in our Attendance Policy, and in line with DfE guidance, we do not authorise absence for holidays during term-time. While advance permission can be given in exceptional circumstances, this is rare and can only be granted by the Head Teacher, in line with Government and Local Authority guidance.
If you wish to take your child out of school, during term time, it is important to discuss this with us as much in advance as possible. Any request should be submitted in writing as soon as it is anticipated and, where possible, at least 6 weeks before the absence via office.3234@longworth.oxon.sch.uk. The headteacher may require evidence to support any request for leave of absence.
If a term-time holiday is taken without permission, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and a referral may be made to the County Attendance Team, which may result in the issue of an Education Penalty Notice.
