At Longworth, we endeavour to inspire pupils’ curiosity about the past and to teach History and historical enquiry skills that will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world. Within a broad and balanced curriculum, we want our pupils to learn about history that is relevant to them locally, nationally and internationally, in order to gain a sense of continuity, identity, heritage, and diversity. We equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
In addition, Longworth Primary School’s high quality historical studies are enriched by:
Pupil Voice
We value the view of our pupils and hold regular chats with groups of pupils from Year 1 – Year 6 to hear what they think about each subject.
What do you like about history lessons?
"When we learned about the Great Fire of London, we did a dance and we made model houses which we burned in Forest School."
"It was interesting learning about old toys and comparing them to ours. They were mostly made of wood and not fluffy, like ours."
"I like learning about different cultures and seeing how they lived. We can learn a lot from what people did in the past."
"I like the stories. Beowulf is really good. I can imagine it as a movie."
"There's all sorts of stuff left behind. Archaeologists dig it up. I found something really old in the mud once. I dug it up and cleaned it at home. It's in my treasure box now."
"It's interesting finding out about the history of this country. I feel honoured to live here. In the past, things weren't always safe, but improvements have been made and it's better now."
