Geography

At Longworth Primary School the geography curriculum inspires a curiosity and fascination about the vast world in which we live. Through geographical enquiry, which reflects the dynamic nature of our world and its people, children will develop their critical thinking and questioning skills.

Our intention is to equip children with geographical skills, knowledge and understanding that extends beyond our village and the United Kingdom in to our ever-changing world. We will motivate our children to appreciate and understand why they need to take a responsible and active part in contributing to and protecting our world.

As they grow up and persevere to make our world a better place where we are compassionate towards others, they will understand and appreciate different cultures, and become responsible and compassionate citizens, within a world of differing social, political, cultural and economic backgrounds.

Longworth Primary School engages all children in high quality geographical studies through:

  • Real-life experiences relevant and relatable to children
  • Research and presentations ∙ using our local area including where our class names originated from.
  • Fieldwork
  • Use practical resources e.g. maps, globes, iPads, compasses
  • Newspapers and reports
  • Calendar events – e.g. World Orang-utan Day (Palm Oil Production), International Day of Charity, Recycling Week, etc.
  • High quality educational experiences and trips – Yenworthy (Devon), Living Rainforest, local walks and studies
